FAQ

DSV offers a wide range of transport options, including air freight, sea freight, and XPress deliveries. Our air freight service is ideal for time-critical shipments, while sea freight provides a cost-effective solution for larger volumes. For urgent deliveries, we offer XPress services, ensuring priority handling for the fastest possible transit time.

Air freight to Japan typically takes 2-5 days, depending on the route and customs clearance. For sea freight from Rotterdam or Antwerp to Japanese ports such as Tokyo, Yokohama, or Osaka, transit times usually range between 50 and 65 days, depending on the exact route and any potential stopovers. DSV provides advanced track & trace capabilities, allowing you to monitor your shipments in real time and always stay informed about their status.

The cost depends on the volume, weight, chosen transport method, and any applicable customs fees. Contact us for a tailored quote.

For transport to Japan, you will typically need a commercial invoice, a packing list, a Bill of Lading (B/L) or Air Waybill (AWB), and possibly a certificate of origin. Japan has strict customs regulations, with import duties depending on the type of product. Specific goods such as pharmaceuticals, electronics, and automotive parts may require additional certificates or permits. DSV assists you in ensuring all customs formalities are handled correctly.

For sea freight, the main ports are Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Kobe, and Nagoya. For air freight, we frequently use Narita International Airport (Tokyo), Kansai International Airport (Osaka), and Chubu Centrair International Airport (Nagoya). With our strong presence in these key logistics hubs, we provide fast and efficient transport solutions.

Japan has several national holidays, with Golden Week (late April to early May) and the Obon period (mid-August) having a significant impact on logistics. During these periods, many businesses, warehouses, and customs offices are closed or operate at reduced capacity, which can lead to transport and customs clearance delays.
Additionally, peak periods in the Japanese economy, such as the end-of-year season and the fiscal year-end in March, can result in increased transport demand and longer processing times. DSV advises customers to plan their shipments well in advance to minimize delays. Our team provides proactive updates and alternative transport options to ensure your goods are delivered as quickly and efficiently as possible.
