DSV invests in solar power to boost sustainable productivity

Batteries and PV panels will cut CO2 emissions by 40%

Solar panels outside of DSV logistic centre in South Africa

DSV is investing R150 million to install batteries and PV panels at its three new-generation logistics parks in South Africa.
The investment is among the first in South Africa to be supported by sustainable financing – a Green Loan – provided by HSBC. The investment is aligned with DSV’s commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices and will enhance the green building features already in place at our logistics centres, which include alternative energy, rainwater harvesting and utilisation of grey water and energy efficient building management systems.

The batteries and PV panels will help reduce the impact of loadshedding and cut greenhouse gas emissions at DSV Park | Gauteng, DSV Park | Cape Town and the soon-to-be launched DSV Park | Durban.

It is anticipated that CO2 emissions will be reduced by more than 40% from 14,738 tons to 9,227 tons per year within 12 months of the project being finalized. The single largest saving, 2,532 tons a year is expected in Cape Town (from 4,516 to 1,984 tons per year), followed by 1,933 tons a year in Gauteng (7,263 to 5,330 tons per year) and an anticipated reduction of 1,046 tons a year in Durban (2,958 tons to 1,913 tons per year).

Green loans from HSBC are available for eligible green projects which have defined sustainability objectives that will positively impact the environment or reduce climate change. Sustainability at DSV means meeting the needs of today’s global supply chains without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs, and our sustainability ambitions, targets and actions are aligned with our commitment to the UN Global Compact and the Science Based Targets initiative and seek to contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement.
