Developing South Africa's cycling talent through the DSV SHIFT Academy
The DSV SHIFT Academy nurtures underprivileged young cyclists with expert coaching, life skills training, and career guidance - empowering them for success on and off the bike.
At DSV, we believe in creating opportunities that extend beyond logistics. Through the DSV SHIFT Academy, we are committed to developing promising young cyclists - particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds - into well-rounded, responsible adults who are equipped for success both on and off the bike.
More than just a cycling programme, the Academy provides structured physiological coaching alongside essential life skills training. Riders participate in educational sessions covering everything from social media awareness, First aid training and career guidance to bicycle maintenance and race strategy. Grade 10, 11 and 12 learners receive dedicated career support, ensuring they have direction beyond their cycling ambitions. Parents are also actively involved, staying informed about their child's progress.
Academy member balance their academic responsibilities with rigorous training, following professional coaching plans tailored to their goals and skill levels. Training sessions take place on the track and surrounding roads under supervision, with race entries and race-day support ensuring they gain valuable competitive experience. With a strong focus on personal development, the academy aims to nurture young athletes to compete at provincial and national levels while preparing them for a brighter future.
At DSV, investing in initiatives like the DSV SHIFT Academy aligns with our vision of making a lasting impact in South Africa. By supporting these young riders, we are not just fostering sporting excellence but also shaping the leaders and professionals of tomorrow.
