sisters journey through cleft surgery

DSV partners with Operation Smile to transform lives in Mthatha

Vital resources are delivered for cleft surgeries in Mthatha, offering life-changing medical care, compassion and support to patients in need.

In a recent initiative, vital resources were transported to Mthatha for a project providing life-changing cleft lip and palate surgeries. Led by Operation Smile, this mission focused on offering safe surgical care to patients across South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, alongside medical expertise and essential research.

For DSV, supporting such initiatives means more than just sponsoring a logistics solution - it's about contributing to a cause that helps provide accessible healthcare to communities in need. By ensuring the efficient delivery of necessary medical supplies, DSV plays a key role in ensuring that these important surgeries are able to take place.

During the 3-day project in Mthatha, 36 patients were screened, 22 received surgery, and 6 had speech evaluations. A total of 4 tonnes of resources were transported to support this programme. This collaboration highlights the power of collective effort in addressing healthcare challenges, making a lasting impact on the lives of those who need it most.

DSV's bottle cap to wheelchair initiative

Bottle cap to Wheelchair initiative

Making a difference by empowering communities across South Africa

Launched in November 2022, DSV's Bottle cap to Wheelchair initiative has gained significant momentum and continues to make a tangible impact across South Africa. Through this inspiring initiative, communities have come together in a powerful display of unity, collecting bottle caps to fund mobility aids for individuals in need. This initiative is not just about collecting caps - it's about offering mobility and hope to those who need it the most.

In partnership with Pandae, and with the generous support of numerous clients, schools and local communities, we've collected over 4150 kilograms of bottle caps to date. As we approach the next milestone of 650 kg, which will result in our seventh wheelchair donation, we are reminded of the incredible power of collective action. For every 650 kilograms of bottle caps collected, we donate one wheelchair and, in the spirit of giving, we donate a second one - amplifying our commitment to improving lives through mobility. To date, we have proudly donated 14 wheelchairs, transforming lives across South Africa.

The participation from schools and local communities has been especially heartening. Many schools have embraced the initiative, turning bottle cap collection into a meaningful project where students not only engage in a fun activity, but also actively contribute to a cause greater than themselves. Our clients have joined the effort, further amplifying the success of the initiative and making a positive impact.

With DSV's logistics expertise and resources, we are uniquely positioned to drive this initiative forward, ensuring that donated wheelchairs reach those who need them most. Beyond the physical act of providing mobility, this project represents a deeper commitment to uplifting communities, fostering unity, and empowering individuals to regain independence.

Each bottle cap collected is more than just a piece of plastic - it represents the kindness of communities coming together to create a lasting impact. We are excited to continue expanding the reach of this initiative and look forward to creating more opportunities for individuals to live more independent, connected lives. Together, we can make a difference - one wheelchair at a time.
